Following his apprenticeship as a watch and clock technician at a major Vancouver department store Ray spent ten years as a jeweler, watch & clock repair estimator, receiving honours in the company's management-training course.


In 1970, Ray opened his own business building sculptured clocks. One of his first commissions was to design and build the worlds' first steam clock in Vancouver's colourful 'Gastown' district  Since it was commissioned in 1977, the Gastown Steam Clock has become one of the most popular and most photographed tourist attractions in the city.


Over the past 30 years Ray has designed and built more than 150 public clocks, including six different steam clocks. The latest was installed in May 2002 as an entrance attraction for the new Indiana State Museum.  The 18 foot high stainless steel & brass clock plays 'Back Home Again in Indiana' on eight steam whistles.


Associations.

  • Fellow' of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and past president of B. C. Chapter 121. Teaches antique clock repairing to Club members.

  • Has served 24 years in The Vancouver Gastown Lions Club, receiving the highest level of achievement, The Melvin Jones Fellow award in 1997, during his post as President of the Club.


Business Information.

  • Owns a large collection of all types of watches & clocks and has appraised timepieces for 25 years.

  • Has participated in 'Timepiece Road shows' at various B. C. Museums.
